3rd gear jump

I have a 2010 X5M and im getting a pretty agressive jump when shifting into 3rd gear around 3 to 4000 rpm and just wanted to know if anyone else is experiencing the same thing and if this is normal?

Thanks

sounds like it could be the transfer case... I just had mine replaced for what appears to be a similar issue...

I would take in in ASAP as mine was covered under the 4 year extended warranty...as its a pricey repaire

In manual under mid throttle and doesn't seem to do it under light throttle. I have to shift early in order for it to not do it most of the time. I thought something could be wrong being it doesn't do it when shifting into any other gear at any other RPM.

my 2012 does the same... recently had some big service done for vacuum pump and some lines and they said trans wasn't throwing a code... I drove it away and in manual in M mode (the only way I drive it) and it still does the same aggressive jump from 2nd to 3rd... I dislike it but my wife HATES it. Will be going back to take the senior foreman out on a ride to show him this is not "normal" as previously stated. Good luck.

Mine doesn't do it if I shift at a low RPM and not much at all in high RPM but mid range is when it realy does it. How about yours?

same thing... mine also doesn't do it if I'm punching it, but every day normal driving and shift at 2500-4000 rpm and it does it nearly every time.

Had a similar issue in my non-M X5. I did the "reset the transmission" trick and it seemed to have gone away. I almost took it in to the dealership, but it hasn't come back yet. Fingers crossed.

How did you reset the transmision? I was going to bring it into the dealership tomorrow to have them look at it.

There is a reset sequence you can follow. I think I just found it by Googling it.

What did the Dealer say? I haven't been able to make it by and the jump is still killing me (even after transmission reset from online).

start the car without pressing the brake pedal. engine light goes on in dash. press the accelerator fully down for 25 seconds. let go of accelerator. start car and drive off.

So after a week of looking into it and the main techs not being able to figure out what the problem was they had it escalated to have an apprentice look at it at BMW and it was the transfer case that was bad so if anyone is having the same problem you need to have them replace this.
