Easy to retrofit rear camera?
Hi all,
Does anyone have experience with retrofitting a rear camera? Is this easy? The car is equipped with professional NAV (609). Many thanks! |

Yea it is easy on E70. I had it done last year. I bought the kit online and had the local stereo shop install it.
The camera kit I bought is the one that gets installed in the factory location. I don't remember where I bought the kit, but they shop owners post on many BMW forums. |

This may be a dumb question, but does the rear camera image show up on the iDrive screen (on an E70 with OEM/factory installed backup camera) or do you have to install another screen?
Can you tell me where you bought the kit and post any pics of it installed? |

Here is the contact info for where I bought this from <kris@modmynav.com>
I liked this kit as it replaces the trunk switch assembly and not one of the license lights. Kris was great to answer any of my questions. I think he may have recommended one of the local installers in the area. |

Yup

You are right, it's not the OEM kit, and doesn't have all of the intergrated functionality (auto-dim, aspect ration, leveling, and defrosting), but it does do the trick and is pretty much plug and play. The OEM kit is $1000 + shipping and that's the cheapest I've found. But for half the price (and functionality) this kit is good enough to serve the purpose. Either way, I guess it's a preference thing. But you are right about it not being OEM.
