doesn't the 50i have two filter elements like the x5m? if so, you might check with K&N filters... not saying they are the best, but they are available... I don't have a 50i or M, so I can't comment on how you guys are suppose to change your filters, but it's pretty easy on the 35i, only 1 filter to change, and you need torx bits to open the airbox...

YOu have to lift up the engine cover (there is nothing securing it (ie no screws)
THen you have two box's like the above picture
Looks to me like this is where your air filter elements are, and you have about 6 torx screws on each box to unscrew to get to the filters (i don't know what size they are)

Simple,,,,all you guys need to do is Google BMW air filters,,,,and there are plenty of places that have them,,,,,,we need 2 for our tyype of engine,,,but it's all there,,just input the info...as for changing the filter,,,you just pull up on the cover that hides the engine,,,and there are several toque screws to remove on each side,,,really simple,,,,,just take it slow and you won't get into a jam!!
