X5M Trade in / Personal Sale Value
Trying to brace myself before I am floored, I have to upsize to a bigger SUV as my family keeps expanding. I have a 4yr old and twins on the way.
What is everyone getting in terms of offers from dealers for a trade in or a personal sale to another individual. All input is welcome, and detail around year/mileage at time of trade in/sale would be even better. Thanks and look forward to the input. |

I'd think low 40s for a really good condition mid miles car. ...Maybe even high 30s for trade in. Remember they've got to make some money off it and they aren't selling for much more. |

It's depressing how quickly these X5's plummet in value. |

KBB says my 2012 is good for a 28-32k trade-in value ... GTFO ... trade-in and resale values are nothing now.
Values have dropped a lot in the last year since I bought mine last September, cheapest 2010 I could find was around $32k with most fetching $38k+ Now there is a 2010 with 122k miles going for only $25k right now ... honestly makes me wish I waited a year and saved $15k. Really disappointing values on these M's because of the stupid high repair costs ... hopefully they keep their value and are worth more than 10k in 10 years ... |

At some point they've got to become "Classic Muscle SUV's" and begin to increase in value....right?!?!?

Our E70 X5/X5M's will be as common as an E90/92 328 unfortunately due to the value of these SAV's dropping significantly

Maybe in 20 years there will be such a limited supply of properly maintained trucks they will increase in value???
I'm sure once these are proven reliable with trucks still running 10 years from now they will still have value if properly maintained and in good condition. If anything the engine in this monster is worth some money |

Check advertised prices for 2010 used and subtract 3-4K for trade in at BMW dealer. Maybe 1K less elsewhere. Figure your personal sale price to be roughly 5% higher than trade-in. However, not a lot of people like to shop for vehicles this expensive via private sale, so it may take a while. They find the ease of financing and getting warranties at dealerships worth paying more for. Plus the fraud these days is crazy, so be careful with the form of payment. You may be able to find someone who can show you wholesale auction values of similar vehicles, though I don't know where. Higher mileage expensive-to-fix/horrendous to replace engines probably scare some people away. Where you trade matters. An Audi dealer could sell your BMW easier than a Ford dealer, for example. Variables such as if it has any warranty period left, or how much, matter, as they can sell it easier with 9 months warranty left than none. Rare high perf. versions may baffle some other brand dealers, they don't know what to make of it. Be aware that prices fell this fall as the 2017 models came out, making yours a model year older. I was pricing 2013 X5 35i SAV's. They were low-mid 40's this summer, but I got a very clean one with no trips in for service ever and the airbag already replaced for $37K last week with 35K miles, 20" wheels, conv, and cold weather packages. CPO, and a late model year one, so it still has a year of full warranty on it plus 2 more of CPO. Ultimately, shop around. And if you're a low mileage user I would definitely consider CPO on the replacement vehicle to take the sting out. Last edited by BrunoT; 10-02-2016 at 02:34 PM.. |

I'm currently looking to trade-in and was quoted the following for my 2012 loaded except rear seat entertainment w/ 44,500 miles. I thought the first owner took a huge hit (~50%), but I'm going to take it in the shorts as well
Toyota Dealer #1: ~$34,000 without seeing the car Toyota Dealer #2: ~$35,000 without seeing the car (I'm friends with sales manager though) Carmax: $33,000

Seems like the larger the vehicle in terms of size and price the harder the depreciation hit. F10/12 M5/6 depreciate a lot faster than F80/82 M3/4.
The Average Joe doesn't want to pay premium for a high powered SUV because he doesn't have a need for one. It's a niche market. |
