New X5 - Door Scratched
My 2009 X5 lease was up so I ordered a 2013 X5 M-Sport 3.5. Picked it up tonight, got home was looking it over and uugghh, pretty decent scratch down the drivers door. The sales guy has been great and I have bought several from him over the years. I sent him a text and he said bring it in and they will see what it takes to correct it. I dont see any way to fix it other than repaint the door which I'm not thrilled about.
Anyone run into something similar? How was it resolved. I'm trying to keep it in perspective; at the end of the day it is just a car but what a bummer. Thx. |

what color is the car? if its a solid color without too much flake in the paint, touch up paint can do wonders. Also, if its not too deep, its amazing what a good detailer can do.

can you feel the scratch or does it snag with your fingertip? If so, it will need to be repainted. If you can't feel it, it can most likely be buffed out. I'd take it a good detailer to do it as I'm sure the dealer will use someone who will be able to buff it out, but leave a bunch of polish trails in its wake....

Personally, I would go professional detailer/paint correction shop. Dealers, even when they are super cool, will go the cheapest route to get it "fixed" and may not do a good job at all or make it worse. Trust me on this...

carbon black is a really tough paint color to match because of all the intricate flaking in the paint. Hopefully, the dealer will be cool and help you out, but having a local body shop look at it to get there opinion never hurts. Just make sure you don't take the cheap way out, either way. You will really regret it down the road if you do, and professional work is going to cost you.
