Trying a new Winter Tire

I needed new 255/19 winter rubber for the wife's X5 because here Pirelli's were worn out. I have to have runflats because life is just easier not having to worry about flat tires when the wife is driving the car so my choices were limited. My tire guy checked every wear and the only rubber he could find was the Blizzak LM-25. I have been running Pirelli Snow and Ice (which are discontinued) since my E53 so it will be an interesting switch. I will be reporting back after I have put some miles and different conditions on them.

You can't go wrong with Blizzak's. They are a very solid snow tire/cold weather tire.

I have only put 25 miles on them but they do emit a perceptible road hum which my Pilelli's did not.

New tires can do that, and improve with age. Others can start quiet and get noisier over time.... But each tire does have a particular hum associated to it, and since it's a Winter tire, many just put up with it for the season, if it affords them safety and better traction.
Think of all the folks with studded tires out there. Here in WA and OR, it's super common. All the cabs in Seattle run studded tires during the fall/winter, and we don't even get any real snow in seattle!
