Thoughts on new X5M?

After seeing the press release was expecting a little more HP/TQ on the new X5M

Other than the new seats and brakes ...think will stay with my tuned X5M

I agree with you, i'm sticking with the e70, the improvements aren't worth the upgrades in my opinion

The highlights for me is the new brakes and B&O sound, but they are also asking a fair bit more than compare to the e70s.

As for the new X5M, i don't like the front bumper, there are just too many lines on it and too complicated almost to the point of flamboyant, i like the simpleness of the current gen. Also dislike the rear wheel arch piece, the flare just doesn't flow like the e70s, as if it's not integrated more like an after thought. The rear reflector placement and integration also looks odd to me. Overall, it doesn't look at aggressive as the current gen

I'm sure power is under rated by the factory. Would love to see the first dynos when they come out.

Early reports were saying more than 600hp...also I thought would get the S63tu engine but appears different ? Keep looking at pics and still not a fan of the front end

No question it's a very nice truck. However I do prefer the E70 styling. It looks tall and skinny, more like a Mercedes or Lexus. They shouldn't have put the fog lights on the M, really makes the front end look busy. I do really like the new interior.

It's faster, new aero bits, new wheels, new 8spd trans; I figure with time, the looks will grow on folks.

I like it. Though those side mirrors are something to get used to

Then perhaps there will be a tune for it, to make it even faster...

Still getting used to the gills on the rear, but apart from that, beautiful.

Just bring the X5 M50d to the US. 376 horsepower at 4,000 rpm and 545 pound-feet of torque available from 2,000 to 3,000 revs. A tune will easily bring that to 400hp, 600lb-ft torque. And you still get decent fuel economy. You CAN have it all.

One can dream...

Disappointing performance, but better gas mileage. I will stay with the E70, the new one looks a little girly.

What are they quoting for mileage ? I get about 18mpg with my tune and consider that good

Mine is stuck at 11mpg without a tune. I don't think I've ever seen over 16. Towing the race car is about 10.

All I can say is we're getting another option for 21" tires. Michelin PSS non run flats! I love the new X5M just for that!!! Super pumped!

^ couldn't agree more, very excited for a 21" PSS, and non run flat is just amazing. Going to search for 21s instead now as I have always ruled them out because of tire choices

Yeah the two things I'm most interested in are the new tires and the brakes. Would be cool to retrofit the brakes onto the current X5M/X6M. I like the seats too, but those will be $$$ to retrofit.

E53 to E70 no brainer... the LCI was even better... I view the F15/85 much like I viewed the E39 to E60 at first not interested but then a year or so and I caved. My experience with the pre-LCI E70 will make me wait until the F15/85 LCI before I make the move.

Few things I like about it:
- seats
- side mirrors
- drilled brakes
- 21" wheels
- new kidney grille

Front looks ugly IMO especially the side view of the hood and headlights area. And since the E70 has basically the same engine as this one - there's no point for me to lust on it.

Aside from the interior being way better I don't think its that big of a difference to make me want to trade in. I think we'll be in for a surprise with how fast it will be though. I'm guessing straight from the factory it will be as quick as our E70M with a ECU flash. The tuning potential of the S63tu is slightly higher than our S63's though pp performance has a solution to that issue
