Does it screw anything up? I'm lazy, and I have the key fob in my pocket, so I use the powered function all the time. Unfortunately my teenager has the attention span of a goldfish so if the tailgate isn't fully open within 0.1 seconds of her pushing the button in the handle/boot trim then she's trying to drag it upwards/downwards.

I'm assuming that since it's powered, lifting it manually is an "emergency" only activity when you really have to?

No it’s on a sliding clutch - lifting it manually does no harm.

To be fair I'm with her, the speed powered tailgates open at makes me die a little inside, every single time. Sometimes it's handy, I'll grant it, but most of the time it's just an irritation. I can't bring myself to open it manually like your daughter though, I just silently scream if I haven't managed to open it on the way to the car with the fob.

Incidentally it took me over three years of having the car to discover I could also close the boot with the fob. Something about RTFM?

Oh yeah, I get it too. I obviously have the advantage that the fob is in my pocket, so assuming there isn't someone stood behind the car I can open it as I'm walking back to it/leaving the house so it's done when I get there, then push the button and it's closed by the time I'm sat in the car ready to drive off.

I was just curious cos so far I've told her to keep her mitts off, on the grounds that if her unwillingness to wait 5 seconds costs me hundreds/thousands in new boot struts then I will be (paraphrased) "slightly cross".

I also only just found you can close the boot by holding the fob, and only just found there's an interior button. I have only had the car a month and a half though rather than three years, so ignoring the manual is still clearly the way to go!

Then I can show the post to my wife, as she keeps 'forgetting' it is powered.

Just above the bonnet catch and the OBD port. Both of which I've used, and didn't notice the boot button until yesterday somehow...

And yeah, definite teenager. Standard logic of "if I break something on your car, then you'll pay for it. And if I break something on my bike, you'll probably pay for that too" which makes perfect sense

But if it won't end up knackering the boot struts in the long-term then I can live with it, if she insists on being that impatient...

I only found my internal boot release button the other day when cleaning the interior.
Stupid place to put an 'everyday' switch.
I reckon they should have put it inside the glovebox in the corner, that way it would be even more hidden.

Not fully correct my pre LCI F31 has the button but does have comfort access, button coded to open and close.

Anyone manually interfering only makes that mistake once

That would explain why I don't recall seeing one then, and as I've been on calls since early this morning I've not had the chance or indeed urgent inclination to go out and check. Slightly disappointing even if I can't think of a single occasion since having the car where it would have been useful!

It's on my 2015 (Dec 2014 build date, I think, so not even close to LCI) pre-LCI without Comfort Access

Not sure how this will help but you can code the boot lid to lift faster when button is pressed, then slow down just before it reaches fully open position, same for closing. I done it on my 4GC as didn't like the thud when closing. Works on X5 so I assume will work on touring.

Did you know you can open just the glass section of the tailgate for quick access? Manual latch is under the rear window wiper bracket.

Yeah, but because my boot is normally full of crap, I pretty much keep the load cover pulled across all the time so you can't get to anything until you've also faffed about lifting that up into its open position. I find it easier just to open the boot, grab stuff, and push the button to close it.

And I daren't tell her about the fact you can just open the glass cos I've seen the way she slammed my old Megane boot, and I've always preferred my window glass in one piece instead of a 5000-piece jigsaw
