Tire Question

Our X5d is going to come with the 214 20" sport pkg set up...so it will have the high pro summer tires with 275/40/20 in the front and 315/35/20 in the back. We will need to move to an all season after a few months of delivery and looking at going with non-run flats...Yokohama Parada Spec-X with 285/50/20 front and 305/50/20 in the back. Will that work? Or is 50 height going to be too much? We wish the X5 came with all seasons with 214s...but my thought is if we are going to get another tire, I'd like to have a bit more height on the tire. Advice, thoughts, any one do something similar or different?

Sizes are wrong. A 50 will not work. Why not stick with the OE sizes and get Continental DWS? Many people are running these tires and reviews have been positive.

It's ironic because I was out today at lunch and saw 50s on an X5 and there was plenty of room. In what way are you thinking they won't work? I have read several reviews on the DWS and they are not that great given the price. Yokohama tires have been the best tires for my other vehicles and they get great reviews. People say specifically they are better than the Continentals for much less. If I had not physically seen the 50s on an X5 today I would have been worried. But there was a lot of space.

The 50 series won't work. 305/50 is different than 315/50. If you go with the size you stated, your tire radius will be 11.6% larger than stock. Results: speedometer showing a slower speed than actual, TPMS will error, along with other things. You shouldn't vary more than 3% from the stock size. Yokohama's are noisy tires. I've had 2 different Lexus and they sound like a 4WD howling down the road. I wanted the same as you, an all season tire. I went with the toyo proxes ST II. $912 shipped for the set. Whisper quiet at any speed, awesome in the rain and a very comfy tire to ride on. Just my .02

Thanks for the tip. I appreciate it. I'll start looking at the Toyo's. Did you go with the original sizes...275/40 and 315/35?

Very nice! I found a site last night that will ship to my military base overseas. And they had the Toyo's all for about $700. Just waiting on the shipping quote. Are they gripping well in the rain for you? Any difference in your MPG?

Gripping in the rain is excellent. We drove 80 mph in a down pour last week. I slowed down to 70 not because of hydroplaning, but because I couldn't see the next car in front of me. Didn't notice a change in mpg, but I'm getting 17-18mpg around town and 24-26mpg at 70-85 mph. Make sure u get the 106 XL for the front and 110 XL for the rear. A little stiffer sidewall and a higher weight capacity.

Awesome, thanks for the help. I'll let you know how they turn out when we get them.
