X5M with Vorsteiner Lip and Mudflaps

Here is my 2011 X5M. I decided to post pics because its that season when salt and sand will cause a lot of people to think about getting BMW mud flaps to prevent getting paint chips. I know at the time I was worried about purchasing flaps that might ruin the look of the car and tried to find images on the net to help my decision. But there wasn't too many helpful pics I could find. Either they were bad shots or you couldn't see the whole car in the pics. I have taken quite a few pictures to help those who are on the fence or not sure about how they look to make better informed decisions. I know not everyone likes the look of the flaps but I don't think they look bad. I think they accent the Vorsteiner front lip spoiler I have. Hope this helps.

Enjoy (or not)!

I'll be the first to comment...

Thanks for sharing, but I think the flaps take away from the overall look of the truck.

But someone has to do it, and thumbs up for having the balls to do it!

It looks interesting but does take away from the look a bit. The pic with the rear end shot makes it look like a wild rally racer that's about to drift a corner and kick up dirt!

I wouldn't have a problem with them on a black X5 however they'd really stick out on my Alpine White 50i. I definitely want the extra protection they offer but was hoping for a more subtle look.

Does anyone know if they are offered in white?

You have a beautiful SAV however with flaps it does not look as aggressive. Just my opinion.

Are the mudflaps easily removed? It would great if you could just put them on for the winter and remove them in the spring.

Either way, your truck looks nice.

Thanks, the pics of your car gave me the balls to get the Vorsteiner spoiler!

Thanks, I guess the mud flaps can be removed but they're held in by screws. Over time the holes would probably lose the ability to grip screws from frequent removal. This, however, can only be done with the X5M; the M-Sport X5 requires cutting the REAR lower bumper trim which would be visually unpleasing if you remove the rear mud flaps.

My tires are currently Continental Extreme Contact DWS all-seasons. I will see how these handle the snow first and then decide if I really need dedicated snow tires. Currently, they handle the roads great (wet or dry), a definite upgrade* from the stock run-flats (Bridgestones).

*more comfortable ride and quieter

I looked for them. Are they simply the 20-21 inch with the aero
Kit?

No, if your vehicle is the 2012 X5M (as it is stated in your info). That is for a regular X5 (non-M or M Sport) with the Aerodynamic Kit installed.

I just checked the website and forgot how confusing ordering the flaps were. It would seem that they no longer carry them or just out of stock. I purchased mine last Spring so maybe its just not in stock currently. You can call them and ask them to special order them for you. They should still be cheaper than the dealer.

Here are the part numbers:
82 16 0 428 284 - Front Mud Flaps (Fit X5M and M Sport Package)

And just in case you wanted to install the rears too...
82 16 0 428 281 - Rear Mud Flaps (Fit X5M only)

Note: Being yours is 2012 and the body styling didn't change I'm assuming it should fit.

I replaced with a matte black grille set. I didn't want to paint the originals only to have a rock chip expose the chrome again.

Lol, no, the flaps will be staying. If you look closely (because my car is a little dirty) you will see some of the outlining of my 3M PPF. The car is wrapped with the clear bra, the mirrors, fender flares, lower rockers AND rear bumper (14 mil) for light bumps by bad NY parkers. There are numerous people who report that PPF alone will eventually, over time, get chewed up by road debris and have to be replaced. But I appreciate your opinion; everyone has their own likes and dislikes. The purpose of my post was to help those who aren't clear as to whether they like the mud flaps or not come to a conclusion.

I was away during the 1 day snow storm so I missed the fun; all the snow was gone by the next day. I'm hoping my Continentals all-seasons will be enough when the time comes. I'm too lazy to swap wheels all the time if i don't have to.

Wow! I just saw your 22's... how is the ride now? Has the wheels altered it much?

I got 3M installed locally in Flushing at a place called TintMax and my tires were ordered from TreadDepot.com and installed also locally (at a garage I wouldn't recommend or patronize again).
