2012 not play MP4 like 2008?

I use a USB stick and have tried others to make certain the problem is with the files. However, I can play MP4 from iTunes in my 2008 4.8 X5 but not my 2012 50i.

I have tried the USB ports in the glovebox and armrest. I also tried to install a software update that I got from the BMW web but the X5 says my files is not compatible.

I leave tomorrow morning for 3K miles and really wanted this music to work. I will just have to focus on the new Escort LIVE for at least the front end of the trip.
