Golf tee mod / exhaust flapper disable

Will this work on a X6 3.5i?

Yes. I've done it but difference in sound is not that big. Basically, you get a little more growl on the low end but the high end is unchanged.

For what it's worth, see below.

335 owners noted a louder droaning whining noise on the highway. Some say quite annoying.

Did you noticed any difference in fuel consumption?

This is just a simple mod that disables the flap at the very end of the exhaust, right at the tip. The needs to be a noticeable amount of backpressure relief to get any significant mpg increase in these heavy vehicles & I didn't notice any change.. Also, I have a hard time to believe those who says "the low end torque decreased" using this mod.. These are force induction engines.. You don't lose any torque/power when you relieve the engine from backpressure (even that logic is false but more on that later).. So in short, no I don't feel any change in power, torque or mpg. I also think that the difference in sound is not that noticeable.

I've got a Supersprint Street muffler. It has no baffles like the stock one. Was told I'd see about 2 decibel increase in sound...that was correct. Pulled the resonator about 1 more decibel increase, just a guess. I can now hear the exhaust where as before, totally stock, I couldn't hear a thing. I have not had someone drive the car as I stood by, perhaps I should try. As a comparison I'd say it's about the same increase, perhaps a little less, as putting BMW's performance exhaust on a 328i, which I did. It's a subdued but quality sound. Hope this helps. It's all very subjective. I've got a stock muffler, including the plumbing through the bumper and tips. Make me an offer, cut it open and play with it?

I hate to bring this thread up after 4 years... But i recently did this mod with the suggestion of another member. I didnt do the "golf tee" version, but i just did the zip tie version. I want to do the golf tee version but some people here said, it's not the same is the 135 and 335 and it doesn't open the valve if you unplug the hose. Any thoughts?

Much appreciated
