Help! X6 purchasing advice.

Hey Guys,

I'm new to the forum and this is my first post.
I was looking to buy a used X5 when I came across the X6. While the X5 is a very handsome machine, the X6 makes my heart go pitterpat!

This is my first BMW. I've been doing my homework here on this site as well as cruising Autotrader.com and cars.com. Any other places to look?

While it looks like they all come very well equiped, what options do you think are a must. I'm looking at the 4.4.

Also I've noticed that the black X6s are often presented as "jet Bank and "Saphire Metalic Black" Are these the same color or is one pure black and one is metalic? I can't tell from the photos.

Welcome!
Here is the break down (bad word I guess)
2008-2009 - Early X6s. Old iDrive, terrible rear view camera (and the camera is IMPORTANT on this vehicle). 6 speed transmissions 12/18 on the mileage.

2010 - New iDrive, same 6 speed transmission.

2011-2012 - New iDrive, 8 speed transmission. Mileage improves to 14/20*

2013 - LCI (life cycle impulse aka refresh) - just out. Has M sport package with extra HP optional. Note the extra HP was also available as a factory and/or dealer option on the 2010 and as a dealer option on the 2008-2009.

That should get you going There is a thread or two here on must have options as well. Your local BMW dealer can run the VIN for you and tell you what exact options a car has (say you are buying it from a non-bmw dealer).

*While the mileage is supposedly improved, I still don't get 14 in the city and the 8 speed auto either starts out like a turtle or slams you back in your seat. Based on this, I personally think the 2010 is a great used one to get - especially with the extra HP

Thanks Doug,

I was actually looking at 2009 but it sounds like it might be worth the extra $ for a 2010 with the new idrive.

Also, to answer your other question, the Jet Black and Sapphire Black are two different colors and just as you surmised the Jet is glossy with no metallic flake. There are other metallic blacks in the BMW line-up including a carbon black also.

If I had to get black, it would be a hard decision. I think Jet looks best, but also will always show every spec of dust.
