2010 X5 M Navigation Question??

Hi, New to this forum, but have been an M5 board members for a long time.

What do I need to update my 2010 X5 M to the new navigation? I've heard its about $300 at the dealer, and was looking for other options that I could possibly do on my own. Your help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Bradd

Are you just looking for the updated maps or a new i drive version. Your 2010 should already have basically the newest version of the i drive menus.

Updated maps for the CIC require an enabling code. You can update one of 2 ways:
1) Pay the dealer for the enabling code and programming (the $300 you mention)
2) Purchase the DVD media (2012 maps are three discs) and the enabling code from the dealer. The media is under $10, and the code varies, but I've seen quoted between $150 -$200

The E70 CIC has had a software update between the time your X5 was manufactured and the present. The E70 combined module update (iLevel) was updated in March to E070-12-03-500. My 03/2011 E70 had 20+ modules that needed updating last month.

I updated my 2010 at the Dealer last year. It was at least $300 and took them longer than you would think. Couldn't tell much difference at all. I wind up using MotionX GPS on my iPad 90% of the time. Still baffles me how an inexpensive app can best BMW for a fraction of the cost.
