Buying 07' X5 - need input
We (wife and I) currently own a 2006 325xi and 2001 325Ci, however with two small children (5 & 3 yrs old), the cars have become a bit small. Now, we're considering a 2007 X5 (4.8) with about 40K. I've read some reviews, but I'd like to also get some input from those individuals that have actually owned an X5.
What has your overall experience been? Any repair trends? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance! Last edited by LorenzoTij; 03-16-2011 at 02:55 PM.. |

I've got mine for sale. 2007 4.8i...fully loaded with 46K miles. Warranty till July 2011. I have all maintanance and repair history from the dealership. basically it was trouble free car. PM me if you interested, but whatever you will buy - I think it's great car.

Six months ago we purchased a 2007 X5 3.0 (all options except sport) w/ 52k miles from a BMW dealer (the same place I have purchased my last 3 Bimmers). The X5 has been absolutely great. No squeaks, rattles and tight as a drum. The ride is a little harsh (according to my wife as she drives it mostly) and we avg 17 mpg (3/4 city driving). Thats a bit more thirsty than I expected but it is NOT a light vehicle. Handling is exactly as advertised...amazing for a Midsize SAV. We purchased a 3yr 36k warranty from the dealer (just in-case), but have not had the need to cash in on that yet. The vehicle was ORIGINALLY purchased and serviced from the same dealer where we bought it (
Roswell BMW in North Atlanta), so we are pretty confident on the history. If this "US" build Bimmer is like its German siblings, I expect many years of solid performance. I recommend it.... Be selective & Good Luck. |

We're still searching. I prefer an X5 with V8, I like the power, but also the package/features (i.e. wife likes the rear TV/DVD for the kids and the 3rd row seat).
We'll see what happens. |

The 3rd row seat was one of our requirements at first, but after seeing the actual space back there it's not going to make or break a deal.

I have an 2007 E70 X5 4.8i and I love it to death. I've had a few mechanical problems with it but everything was replaced under warranty. The V8 is thirsty my friend and unless you absolutely need the extra power you should stick with the 3.0L X5.
Good luck. |

Anyhow, my wife is a home engineer (housewife) -LOL, which means our future X5 will not be our daily driver either, we're mostly in my daily beater (2001 Bimmer), wife drives the 2006 you see below. We've looked at several X5's V6 and V8, and we still prefer the V8. I think what concerns me the most is some of reported mechanical problems people have been experiencing (i.e. persistent oil leaks, etc.). I'll keep reading this forum and educate myself on the internet. |

same story for me...after some research and calculations we decided to buy new b/c we were financing. Everywhere I looked the 07 v8's were going for 40k+ w/ about 35k mi.
mine came out to 50k +tax w/ .9%, not to mention the 35i is as fast as the 48i, but the kicker is that I'm averaging 20mpg overall and my last trip netted me 24mpg averaging 80mph the resale value is so good on these cars that it might be worth it to purchase new... highest resale value 1 honda crv 2 e70 x5 3 jeep wrangler
