Input on 07-08 4.8i - CPO or NOT
Hi guys,
I am new here and have some questions on with you guys - specially 07 and 08 4.8i owners. We have decided to move to an X5. After driving the ML550 and comparing it to the X5 there is NO comparison! The 4.8i with sport pkg handles almost like a car! Love the look with the 20" wheels style 214. Anyway, I know if I go to the dealer I can get them CPO but the price is higher. I have ventured out to different sites and have located a few Private sales. Some of them are either out of warranty (still under 50k miles) or about to expire. But the price will be about 5-7k less than what dealer will sell for? Worth the risk? Maybe get extended warranty? Also, how hard is to get 214 style wheels? One of the cars we like has the 18s but has all the options we like Any input is very apprecited Cheers |

Granted a CPO cost more money but usually will have lower miles and also now have a warranty to take you to 6yrs/100K miles from the date the vehicle was fist put into service. So in a essence yoru are paying for a warranty and the cream of the crop of selected vehicles.

You can buy extended warranty from a dealer for about $3K. I just sold my car and it was 46K miles with warranty till July 2011, but the car was perfectly fine and I did not want to buy extended warranty ( if I'd use it ).
Find the car, which has at least another 3-6 months of factory warranty, so you'll be covered for couple months. Go to the dealer and ask them to check and change everything they see is wrong..or update any software. When the time comes - you can decide about extended warranty. 214 style wheels/tires you can buy on this forum OEM - for about $2500 or replicas ( which I do not suggest ) for $1500.

Thanks for the feedback guys.
So I have found an 07 Space Gray/Black 4.8i Sport Pkg, Nav, running boards,Weather Pkg, BUT 18s Warranty expires Aug 2011. I called my local dealer and the cheapest new car warranty is $4170 no Nav coverage!!! No extended warranty or CPO. This is 70k miles or 3 years (the current car has 39k miles). I thought about getting car and still have 4 more months to decide and have car checked for any updates/issues. What is a good price point for it? What $$$ range for a non CPO warranty shall I consider? |

Asking 33k. Down to 32k to help out with shipping to CA (about $800-900).
Just got pics last night and different car (no running boards and Car had 19s). According to him the pics posted on CL were stock photos as he could not upload his. I passed on this one as he was not totally upfront or unclear. So back in the drawing board. My goal is Black/black so hope to find a decent one soon |
