X5 diesel
Hey guys
I'm flirting with the idea to get a low millage 2010-11 x5 cpo diesel. I have a M3 but I need more cargo space for my sporting gear. I tried to do some research but I couldn't find too many long term reviews on it. So any things that I should pay attention or notorious problems with the Diesel engine? For the diesel owners, will you do it again? Thanks. |

The engine itself is solid. The emission system could give problems though. Feds require manufacturers to cover most of it untill 80K miles, and some states require *all* of it covered untill 75K. Had a couple sensors (pre and post catalyst NoX) in my 35d replaced under CA/WA state mandate.
I expect the DPF and EGR system to give me problems closer to 100K miles. P.S. My vehicle is out of original warranty and I chose not to extend it. |

I actually had an M3 guy try to trade me straight across. I wanted too but I just couldn't do it.

I would not go for diesel again. I bought mine with 60 k miles. Had EDR recall, dealer fixed it but something else went wrong. they fixed it again. Then my injectors went bad, paid 5k out of my pocket for new injectors, fuel pump, few sensors etc. Car still runs crapy, low power, bunch of codes active, bad fuel mileage. Nobody can figure out what is wrong with it, even dealer...
If I go with X5 again, it will be 3.5

The root issue, as often with any BMW, could be something cheap and trivial (like bad battery). Have you asked for help on this (or other) forums regarding your issue? We have very knowledgeable members. |

Have 2 M3s and bought a 12 diesel in December with 16k on it for 44k. I love most aspects of the truck except for the heavy steering. I don't have the adjustable steering and have the sport package. It's incredibly heavy around town and almost ruins the car. Other than that it's been great so far. Towing the e46 to COTA next month with it.

No -- Only have 3k miles on a 2013 but after talking with BMW of North America, doesn't look good. They said due to low mileage, certain problems will not be
covered in some cases. Told the lady that is small town living. So if go with a BMW again will be gas or a hybrid. So no would not do diesel again. Main reason took this one was because of rebates. Like the way the diesel pulls and even the sound. Just doesn't sound like a vehicle for limited driving. |

We bought ours last month. If you're gonna put 2k+ miles a month on a vehicle, no better purchase! The payback when it's time to trade will be worth it in 24-36 months!
