No more complaining over cost!!

So for those of you that don't know, I work on a ship as an engineer. My normal run is just up and down the West Coast (crude oil tanker), but every 5 years, our ship goes to Singapore for a shipyard repair period. Anyway, we've been over here for a few weeks now.

This morning I flipped open the local paper and decided to cruise the classifieds... I saw the gem below and almost hit the floor when I saw the price. A good looking X but damn, that price!

The terrifying part is that current exchange rates, that would still be $181k.

Maybe that's the total expected maintenance cost, post-warranty

Let's not forget that there is an $80,000 tax every 10 years, just to be able to drive a car here. After 10 years, you post it again, whether it's a new car or not.

Yes Jeff, my relief has been delayed because his medical documents were expired. So, now I wait, but I should be home around the 3rd of August or so.

Ya I lived in Singapore for 3 years, I rather take public transports than having car there, super convenience and efficient and cheap too. Yes the license plate only lasted for 10 years, either you scrape the car or bid for another licence permit..if you are lucky like my friend he got it for only $100 because none were there for the bidding war...or normally you have to pay $30k up to $80k. Amazingly you will see so many luxury cars there....the people there make good living and Singapore is safe and clean. Make sure no chewing gums..fine $500, not flushing after using public toilet $250 LOL

...like a jail.

I do not understand people that would give up a lot of liberties for some perceived (or real) safety. "Golden cage" is a term for this.

Actually, it's not like a jail if you behave like a normal citizen, the fines and punishment is for people who doesn't and ruins the image of the city and cause inconvenience to others

I think chewing gum is not illegal, it's if you spit it at random places after that will get you in trouble. As for flushing public toilet after use, that really should be common sense for people.

No chewing gum at all, you can't buy in Singapore…its illegal like drugs. It cost the delay of their subway due to people stick their gum on the door of the sub and prevent the door to close. In Singapore almost 80% people use public transports so its a no no…cost time and money all about efficiency.

Singapore hates cars. It's also very expensive to register, license yourself, and pay for congestion charge just to drive your car

yep, our gas is comparatively very cheap relative to our income. It's so cheap, I use it to fuel my campfire.

Hey guys... I'm finally home from Singapore... Was so nice to get back into the X5 and M3 yesterday, took them both out for a drive. Anyway, yes, Singapore is an interesting and different place than the US, but I do love it. Its beautiful, clean, and pretty safe for the most part.

Anyway, saw this ad in the local paper while I was out there, figured I'd add it in here, just for kicks...
