I spoke to bmwna and you are right. It's non transferable thru 3rd party dealers.
So now that is confirmed, I might have to look for other extended warranties. |

I will be buying an x5 too. I got this one for 32K but it is 2011 and is not a CPO either. Most of the dealer offer an extended warranty. This one for example is offering me 3years/50k miles bumper to bumper for $2500 and a $100 deductible on any BMW dealership per repair.
Your is nice. I wish I could have found a silver one too as I have a silver 3 series. Good luck M-Pkg Dealer's Price: $31,900 Location: Miami, FL · 90 miles away Mileage: 57,538 miles Transmission: 8-Speed Automatic Exterior Color: Carbon Black Metallic Interior Color: Oyster Gas Mileage: 14 MPG City 20 MPG Highway Engine: V8 Seller: Dealer Major Options: Rear Climate Package, Sport Package, Head-up Display, Sunroof/Moonroof, Navigation System, Storage Package, Alloy Wheels, Technology Package, Bluetooth, Premium Package, Premium Sound Package, Sound Package, Climate Package

You don't want to own an X5 without a BMW CPO or similar warranty (like Rt 66 Easy Street with electronics). 1. You MUST find out what the prior history (before 7/15/14) was on this car. Do not skip this step. 1. Find out if you can keep the CPO intact by doing the purchase transaction through BMW of Austin (or any other BMW dealer). There may be an ownership relationship between BMW of Austin and Leif Johnson Ford Truck City. If you have a trade, this may be the way to facilitate the transaction. They may want a fee (offer $500). It may be worth it to keep the CPO. Anything higher puts you in the BMW EVP plan or Rt 66 plan territory as far as warranty pricing. 2. Keep looking ... there are others out there. Patience is the key, especially if you want multi-contour seats and the must have Adaptive Drive! You may even score a 50i that's gone through the N63 CCP, but the owner is fed up with it ... Reconsider the m-sport package: you won't like the "sand blasting affect on the rear doors and wheel flares" - guaranteed! Most, including this one, don't have a heated steering wheel (perhaps not necessary in TX).

You don't need a warranty for the 3.5i. They're overall very reliable. That money's much better off in the bank. However, for the V8s you're looking at, it is advisable to have one. CPO warranties won't provide much more protection than a decent exclusionary 3rd party warranty. Just check the fine print.

Pretty sure OP is after 35i models as there was no mention of the 48i or 50i, which I would personally stay away from. Here's a thought, why not pickup a 35i with a little more mileage for $5-$10k cheaper and use those savings to buy yourself a good warranty rather than spending the extra for a CPO that might only have 1-2 years of coverage remaining.

I know some might disagree with me, but I'm very glad I have a CPO on mine. Since mine is a 2011, and I bought it from an Audi dealership in Houston, it thankfully transferred. I have a feeling my right A/C vents are blowing lukewarm air as opposed to the left vents, which are ice cold. CPO will, again, come in handy.
I hate the new CPO rules. Extremely annoying. |

OP: I clicked on your link, and it shows the vehicle has been sold. Did you buy it?
Was it this one? http://austin.craigslist.org/ctd/5110794482.html |

Hi guys....i got the X5 yesterday. I was able to get it down to 39k out the door and thought it was a very good price to say no. I will get a third party warranty (route 66 from penfed maybe!!!!!)
I spoke to BMW of Austin and found that it was previously driven by the sales manager before selling it as a CPO. I am planning to take it to my local dealer to find out more about the history. Thanks for all the help. Excited to be part of X5 team!!!! |

Wrote my SA an email today, and he does agree that it's probably the evaporator core. Said it was a very expensive fix, but covered by CPO. Car will go in on Tuesday.
