Wheels or Dinan Stage 2?

Contemplating my first major upgrade for the new x5 5.0i. On the fence between new wheels, upgrading from 18" 210s to the 21" BMWs pictured below, vs. Dinan Stage 2 software upgrade. I live in Boston where the roads arent the greatest so for that reason I may be leaning towards the software.

Thoughts?

Get the wheels and look a tune from other sources (much cheaper than DINAN)

I have seen comments that tires are cheaper in 22" than 21". I would check it out before buying 21" wheels. 20" tires are 1000-2000 a set. I think 22" is a very good choice and close in price.

If the roads are not too great, you might have issues with bigger rims and low-profile tires that is require for these bigger wheels.

That's what I am worried about. I do have the premium rather than the sport, so perhaps that will mitigate the effect on the ride. However, I am coming from an m coupe so I've been a little preoccupied with performance. The wheels do look great though and would allow me to do the flared fenders. Plus nobody has those wheels.

On the other hand, wheels would cost me just south of $7,000 vs. less than 4000 for the dinan stage 2.

Dinan stage 2 is 500 hp and 580 tq, so no joke there. It also can't get dented or ruined by a pothole. If I went with the Dinan I would spring for a laser interceptor package. The car would then be somewhat of a sleeper, as it would have the appearance of a wealthy soccer mom-mobile that could blow away most anything on the road. I kinda dig that. Then again, the wheels look great....sigh.

It really is a toss up for me.

Get the 20" ones, best of both worlds. I live in Montreal and our roads are nothing to compare to anywhere in US, absolute nightmare, plus a very harsh winter. I run 2 sets of 20" style 214 wheels, one for summer with Dunlops the other is my winter setup with Pirellis. No problem with roads or snow and 20" tires priced not out of this world like 21"s. On top of that my truck is remaped as well.

The wheels look good, but the difference with the Dinan software is dramatic. It totally changes the way the X5 drives, and makes it much more enjoyable. I'd go with this first and then 20" wheels. You can probably get both upgrades for what you'd spend on the 21" wheels.

Think about it before buying those wheels.
I've bought those as Replicas in 19''
Not too much to lose, and wanted to see if I'd like the increase in size before purchasing 20''

Those wheels are impossible to keep clean, takes a while to wash, and even when spotless, looks like there's brake dust on them.

I've listed them on an internet ad site as good winter wheels, and getting less busy 20''.

Good feedback, thanks. Clearly these wheels are a fan favorite though perhaps not the most practical thing. Maybe 20/21" 214s plus the tune is the way to go given the significantly lower price of 214s.

I settled on a nice set of wheels from a fellow board member (OEM ferric grey 215 21") and the Dinan Stage 1/2 is going in today. The wheels will wait until the spring however. I suppose I should have included" "both" as a vote option, lol. Sweet.

Oh BTW, it's 15% off of Dinan software until 10/31. Saved $500.

Dinan Stage 2 installed in about an hour, as advertised. Shifting is noticeably faster and still very, very smooth. Turbo lag is decreased significantly. So far so good.
