F&*K Water Spots Won't Go Away!!
OK guys I need some help.
I took the X to the mountains this weekend and washed her as soon as I got back and I now have water spots on the hood and a few other places that I can not get out I have tried the vinegar trick along with clay bar but still no luck. Anyone have another suggestion on getting these out? |

When I bought my 3 series it was heavily water-spotted - for windows I had to use steel wool #0000 (works amazing) but obviously you don't want to use that on paint. Did you try some fine polish? |

So I just read online that people have been using CLR to get water spots out.
Has anyone tried this. I know that I have used it around the house but this stuff is nasty and its a little concerning putting it on paint. Thoughts? |

I was never a believer in random orbitals until I got one from griots. Hand polishing just won't do the trick sometimes. Get a quality polish with fine to medium grit to go along with it, and you are good to go.

I have been converted as well, no more hand polishing for me. However, BMW clear coat does seem extremely susceptable to water spots and bird poop etching

Be very careful with those things. You can do a lot of damage to your clearcoat in a hurry and not even know it. An amateur should NEVER use a medium grit.

So I tried the CLR with no luck. Looks like I am going to be paying a detailer to polish the whole car. I got a quote today for $200 and he will come to me. He said that it would take him most of the day and would like to start around 8am.
Im a mixture of pissed and pleased. I'm not looking forward to forking out $200 but I am excited to have it done. |

200 dollars for a detail is nothing. Good detailer and I mean good one will charge that sometimes by the hour. A real paint restore out of pokey by an expert could cost $1k+.
If you have never used a DA polisher and all the steps associate d to it and all time it takes and how the car will come out after. Trust me that money is worth it big time! Then all you have to do is maintain. DIY can be extremely gratifying when it comes out though. |

$200 is very cheap for a detail that is supposed to remove water spots. Are you sure this is a decent detailer? Have you seen some of the work he's done in the past? What's his Web site?
This is the only product that I've seen high end detailers use that they swear by: http://www.detailedimage.com/Chemica...P194/16-oz-S1/ |

This guy was recommended to me by Ferrari of Denver. They told me that they will not use anyone else in town. Also, I talked with him for around a half hour and explained that I have tried multiple things and if I had an orbital I would do it myself. I think he feels bad that I just bought the car and already having to get this done. |

'The Intrigue Detail' used to be the go-to place in Denver, but they have since moved to Texas. One of the guys is still in town, and does detailing...just curious if that's where they sent you.

I had mixed results, so I probably wouldn't recommend them.
I've been looking for a new guy for awhile though, so I'm very interested to hear what you think of Steve's work.
