Battery Recall

Just had routine service (oil, filters), and they replaced my battery under a Recall. Asked S.A. why - only response was "consumer convenience."
Anyone know what this recall is all about?

Yes, can you post the bill? I'm still on the original battery and it would be nice if I can get that replaced the same time when the recall the driveshaft for me.

Battery Recall

Here's an excerpt from the e-mail I got from BMW, notifying me service was due:

Dear Greg:

Your 2016 X5 M has indicated that you need to schedule a service appointment for the following service(s):

• Engine oil
• Microfilter
• Recirculating air microfilter
• Replace 12 volt battery according to SI B61 30 14

If you Google the Recall Bulletin you'll see all kinds of info, but nothing concrete (that I could find) regarding the rationale behind the change-out.

It's not a recall. It's a BMW Service Information bulletin to replace the battery at every oil change for those under the original 4/50 maintenance program.

Yes! It's been bmw policy for sometime on the n63 and I believe s63 engines to replace the battery at every oil change, because of the cars heavy battery use for shutdown cooling and lack of charging while driving (efficient dynamics). The easy cure for the owner is after your service is up to extend battery life is recharge it once a month,

Here is a good article about the issue,

What other SUV can you get that is this powerful and more reliable?

BTW, I see your signature Engine 55. I use to live across the street when I was younger!

I've been looking at replacing my 50i with the Maserati Levante S for quite some time now...similar hp/tq numbers but the red interior with cf trim has me hooked!

The X5M I may keep for a while because I would lose my ass if I sold it or traded it in after all the money I put into it. I've had it for 2 years now and only put about 8k miles on it so far...the '69 Chevelle SS is something I really want but @JeST wants me to get an M3 track car instead lol

My uncle was in 55 house for a long time, they called him Popeye if that rings a bell. I retired from 55 a few years ago but most of my career was in 41 up in the Bronx

454 wasn't available until '70; at least stock. I too like the Maser, but would rather wait a few years for them to work out the bugs.
