Black BMW Leather Source

Ok, this is going to sound crazy, I know. Only a true car nut would dream this up.

My wife and I are expecting out first child in February. If none of y'all have looked at car seats lately, the aesthetics are rough.

I've found a seat that I like function and feature wise, but it would be awesome if it matched the interior of my car. If I can find a leather that looks similar, I'll get the seat recovered to match (solid on the bolsters and perforated in the middle.

Does anyone have a good source for leather that does a good job of matching the factory black merino leather?

Thanks a lot

P.s. Yes I know this is stupid and will be expensive. We drive 5,500 lbs SUV's that go 0-60 in under 4 seconds. Logical thinking is not one of this forums attributes.

Find a used seat (second row tend to be cheaper), on eBay or a wrecking yard, and reuse the upholstery ... viola!

Umm... There may be a very good reason there isn't leather in a car seat for children. Think heat and breathability and abrasion characteristics.
Get a solid britax or recaro and call it a day.

Don't discourage him! I want to see the finished product

Seriously though, I would be concerned about the heat absorption properties of black leather on a baby seat. My black leather seats are hot enough to make me uncomfortable after the car has been sitting in the hot sun--I can't imagine what that could do to a baby.

If you go that route, you'd want to consider a matching cover to keep the heat off the seating surfaces.

Infant seats are definitely not cool looking, but only the base resides in the car when the kiddo is not in, i.e., you cant even see the darn thing through the window from a distance. You can buy nicer convertible seats after the kiddo is around 1--heck I have a black and red Graco one that looks cool for $150.
