2012 X5 35D Diesel Exhaust Fluid Warning/Engine Thermostat

I recently had to get my oil and diesel exhaust fluid changed. After it was changed the engine warning (your engine will shut off in XXX miles) did not clear and neither did the check engine light. Brought it into BMW and the saw that they needed to do a warranty replacement for some module or something because they couldn't "hook up" to the computer to see why the check engine light was on. Waited a month and finally the part came in, they installed and were able to read that the engine thermostat was faulty. They quoted $1300 for a $95 part so I used my regular shop that has done my work for a while and we've always been happy with/trusted. After he installed the new engine thermostat the diesel exhaust fluid warning will not clear. Say my engine will shut off in XXX miles and he's not sure why it won't clear.

Anyone have any suggestions that might help avoid using the dealership? I tired a search but to no avail

Idk I’ll have to find out. You think there’s too much or too little?

I think the DEF tanks are really large, somewhere around 6 Gallons? I doubt there is a way to overfill it since whenever I fill mine it simply stops filling. I would try to top off the active tank (driver side under the air duct pipe) and see if it takes any fluid. It costs $5 for fluid and 2 mins to check
