2012 E70 - engine need to be replace at 37 200 miles?!

Hi everybody,

My father's 2012 E70 (35i xDrive) has only 37 300 miles.... the engine no longer works and the mechanic technician discovered several holes in the cylinders....

They said we need to replace the engine... because the repair cost will be amost the same price as replacing the engine...

I called at BMW dealer, they said we need to paid to check what is happen and then they will "maybe" replace the engine for free if it's a manufacturing defect.

But they said, it's a 2012 and no warrenty on it anymore.... the chance if BMW replace de engine for free is very minimal....

Is it normal that the engine is broken at 37 300 miles? The warrenty just finished last summer and always did maintenance at the dealer...

What should we do.. ?! -_-

Your first tech diagnosed holes in the cylinders? That sounds like a strange diagnosis. I assume he already pulled the head and a fair amount of the engine is already disassembled. You might want to get a second opinion and since the engine is already pulled apart it shouldn't be that expensive.

The engine has only 37 000miles (60 000km).... that's make no sense to have holes in the cylinders.... always do maintenance at the dealer until the end of the warrenty. And now the warrenty is finished, BMW won't to replace the engine for free (free for us).... We just replace the engine and will sale the X5 after that... maybe the car is unlucky...
