2011 rear hatch struts?

Hello....just picked up a 2011 X5 x50i to add to the list of cars that drain my wallet.

This one comes to me with non working convenience entry or rear hatch.

Hatch is the first thing I'd like to fix. On the left, the actual strut is missing. On the right it is there, but not connected to the top or bottom and only hanging by the wiring connector to the door.

Thoughts on what parts I need to order? And is it just plug and play? Anything else I need to worry about?

Go to Realoem.com and pull up the schematic for the vehicle. It will have all the parts and part numbers you'll likely need. An excellent resource for you.

I'm taking it that the power struts have failed? A lot of folks swap the power struts for just regular old struts to save $$$$. You loose the ability of self open and close, but on the plus side it opens a heck of a lot faster. You may also have to code out the power hatch option. Did this on my first E70 4.8i, converted to conventional struts.

struts

Thanks.

Since the wife will primarily be driving, I went for the power struts.

I'll be installing them over the weekend.

You mentioned coding...what do you use?

I don’t believe any coding is necessary for keeping the power open struts. Only if you converted from power to non-power opening or visa versa.
