Any known issues with the X5M?
I Google search everything and it seems that the X5M doesn't have any report of any problems.
From one of my earlier post I reported a injector problem, the tell tail sign was from the blacken bumper cover area near the exhaust opening. http://www.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=722935 After the injectors was replaced the bumper area remained clean for awhile and recently it started to get black again. So I took it to the dealer and hoping they would find the same injector problem. To my surprise the shop foreman told me that they can't do anything with the car if it is not throwing a code. Last time I had a missfire code, which didn't set of a CEL (check engine light). So basically he told me there is nothing he can do until there is an error message stored. So my bumper continues to get darker... recently I noticed that the car is also using up oil. My oil measurement markers have never moved since new. So far 14,000 miles I've had two oil changes done by the dealer (I paid for them). And now the oil level gauge dropped 1/4 level. Not sure if this is related to my suspicion of another leaky injector. Have anyone else had issues with their X5M? Or maybe I am just too gear head to be noticing these things? |

Oil level dropping within 14000 miles and with 2 oil changes done? I'm on 40,000 miles and haven't had the oil level drop that low. I followed normal oil changes too every 15k. My bumper isn't black at all, just slightly black from normal exhaust fumes and barely cleaning the car, and its a white car too. Something serious must be going on especially if your oil level is dropping that much

There are a number of X5Ms out there on eBay recently that are listed as "lemon buy backs". The seller's will tell you the issues were small but on the one I was considering, I learned that it had had an "engine issue" @ 44K miles that BMW was not able to resolve in 3 visits. So I stayed away from it even though the price was VERY low ($56K for a 2010 M with 46K miles). You might want to look into the lemon buy back details others might have on those models to get a better idea of risk

Two common issues that come to mind are the rock chips (get clear bra material put on in front of the rear tires) and the battery issue where the battery will die out and need replacing between 20-40K miles.

Only 2 annoying issues with mine: the parking brake module died and I had to manually release the brake from the trunk until the dealer got a replacement module in stock; and there is a recurring problem with the rear powered hatch intermittently not opening when I press the rear exterior switch.
