Angry Burning smell!

Anyone have idea what is going on with the burning smell when the heater is on? Smell like burn plastic. No issues when A/C is on, blower is working OK.

First off your x5 model would help. Did you check your filters? My x5 35d has filters below passenger side dash and in engine bay.

N55? Most likely your valve cover gasket is leaking. Oil drops on the exhaust manifold and air heater sucks it in. Had exact same issue, replaced valve cover and the gasket, and it solved it. Maybe 1.5 hours to DIY.

If you did a valve cover gasket and cover replacement in an 1.5 hour start to finish... You sir are a bad man!!

Best I've done is 2.5-3, but I guess I'm old, and OCD about it while I'm doing it too...

I don't think anyone can finish this job in two hours. It took me two days to complete (due to some unexpected dramas of course).
