X6 "M" Testing At BMW PC-Pic's and Vid's

Here are some pic's and vid's of the X6 M testing here in SC.I apologize up front for some of these pic's...I was moving around trying some different vantage points....some better than others.I've got to upgrade to a camcorder...this camera vid sucks. This X6 looks a little futher along in development than the X6 M test mules just seen in the Desert this summer. If you look closely at the first pic of the X6 going in the gate....you can see they have put those quad exhaust in a nice looking production ready rear fascia/bumper.The big news was the exhaust note of the X6 M.It DID NOT sound like the 50i TTV8 that I've heard many times at the PC Track. This engine today had a very high pitch exhaust note.OK.....I'll go ahead and say it...it sounds like a V10 or V12.I know BMW has dropped hints that the X " M"'s will get "juiced" TTV8's.This exhaust note just does not have that booming "NASCAR" V8 roar of the TTV8.Now...maybe BMW has tuned the TTV8 to "sound" like a V10/V12.I just don't know at this point. The most convincing moment was when the X6 was leaving the track and the driver realized I was taking pic's.....he punched the gas...and this exhaust note was the "popping-crackling" sound that a V10/V12 makes when you punch the gas at low speed. You car guys know the sound I'm talking about. It was NOT that "gurgling burbling" note that the 50i TTV8 has when you punch it at low speed. It will be neat to see just what engine is inside the X6 M!!! Thanks! PalBay

I have a feeling a fully loaded X6 M will be around $100,000.

I just don't see how this'll work with the M philosophy. However, I'd be happy to see BMW prove me wrong.

Sounds..

It definitely sounds supercharged to me. Its kinda rough and not melodious actually. So its either 4.4 TTV8 or TT V10 from the M5 or the new TT V12 (from the new 7 series).
I do not believe they would go for the V12 due to emmisons, TT V10 is a nonsence since I hear the next gen M5 is getting a new TT V8 () so it looks like its gonna be the current 4.4 TT V8 tuned to 500hp..

if it is going to be a M motor, then i think it is going to be near 600 PS,because actuall audi RS 6 is 580PS...so i guess it i going to be a much stronger than 500ps.

I remember reading something about V10 going away in two years because of EPA regs. I could easily see getting 500hp out of TT8 with software tweak and 600hp with few other changes.

However I think BMW would be wise to keep their eye on mpg. $4 a gallon gas is here to stay and even if you don't care about $, mpg is important unless you just want to cruise the blvd on Saturday night.

watched and listened to the videos didn't hear the super charged sound.

Jason, Is there a way to replace the pic's and vid in my original post and replace w/ this link, but keep the writeup? I'm going to start using this service going forward. The quality of the vid's is outstanding, took one hour to upload this 50 sec vid. Sorry for the trouble. Thanks! Anyone else think that could be a side mounted intercooler, a la Cayenne Turbo... I guess it could be a large oil or trans cooler too. Just a thought!

Best,

Tony

I have said it once and I will say it again. I they come out with an //M variant in any SAV, you can flush the //M name right down the toilet, then its just like Merc slapping the AMG badge on anything just to sell more cars.

F**K BMW if they piss on the //M badge by throwing it on a SUV....sorry, SAV.

this is ridiculous.........it's another freakin' war with the german automakers...........porsche has it's cayenne turbo s and the benz has the ML63 or w/e...........now bmw wants a freaking X6 M?!!? WTF

Why can't they just make an X6.5 or something and leave it at that rather than messing w/ the M badge

That is EXACTLY what i was thinking, they definitely look like side mount intercoolers to me, but only time will tell.

Ok I'll bite, what's the difference if they put a badge that says 6.5 or an M badge if what's under the hood is going to be the same.
