What should a healthy engine sound like?
The other day, someone had posted a Youtube video of their engine making weird noises, which made me curious about what mine sounded like.
Then I realized: I don't actually know what it's SUPPOSED to sound like... Here's a 30 sec video of what my X5M engine sounds like, warmed up, and in park. A/C is off. Does everything sound normal? The car drives great and give me no issues: no check engine light, it doesn't eat oil, there's no smoke coming out of the exhaust, the acceleration feels strong, transmission feels buttery smooth, and I get about 16.5 mpg. That sounds about right. Clicky clacky sewing machine noise. I was researching every x5m engine sound when I first got mine because this doesn’t sound like the other bmw I owned in the past. For some reason the S63 motor is unrefined as far as quietness. My previous 550i with the N63 is like whisper quiet.

Sounds just like mine. Main thing you're hearing is the fuel injectors.
Last car I had was a Lexus that also had direct injection and it was audible, but nothing compared to the S63.
