X5 3.5 Lowered With H&R Springs
For what it's worth, my car was successfully lowered 1.2 inches with H&R springs. I've got adaptive drive. I figured that out, BMW no help, because I have a small rectangular button directly behind the transmission lever that says 'Sport'. Found the info. in my owners manual on page 99. No mention of 'adaptive or 'sport' drive in any index's. It pumps some more air into the air shocks and stiffens them. I also think the option, it is not listed on the window sticker, may raise the car higher than those without it. Bought the car off the lot. Regardless, after bashing my head against the wall I'm unable to down load my pictures to this web site or to photo bucket. I'll e-mail some pictures to anyone that PM's me. The car doesn't look like it's really lowered too much but certainly looks better. The ride is a little stiffer, they are called 'Sport' springs, but by no means not too harsh. What I find remarkable is the thumping I used to get prior to the change out when I drove over normal small bumps has been cut by about 75%.
Install cost $208. and an all wheel alignment cost $65. Springs were $466. including shipping. Must be bought through a local dealer and took over two weeks to get. I think Christmas had a lot to do with that. |

One more note, below is a post I cut and paste from the BMW web site for accuracy. Running a measuring tape from the ground over the center of the wheel to the lower lip of the wheel well showed mine at 33 and 1/4 inches front and rear above the concrete.

I'd have liked it lower in the front but I have what are called 'Self Leveling' headlights. It's, according to the dealer, nothing more than a ball point pen sized control arm that adjusts the headlights to level via a system. They told me if I did a two inch drop I may exceed the parameters of the arm. I lowered a 328i, more in the front than rear, don't remember the specs.(Eibach springs), not too long ago and my headlights on low beam were worthless. Conversely, I'm told there is some adjustment capabilities in our headlights. When I put the 21's on I didn't realize the extremely limited number of tires available for that size wheel. If one were to use bigger tires on a 20 or 22 inch wheel, look at Minimee388's pictures, it would certainly look even better.
