Looking at 2007-2009 X5...questions

So I'm thinking of moving from my 2006 330i to an X5. I just have some basic questions. Is the 3.0 really sufficient for the vehicle? Would I be much better off with the v8? Is there any option that is a must have? Things to stay away from?

I think it going to be just fine. MPG is around 16.5 on my 3.0 so I expect it to be much less on a 5.0. Also I personally like it compared to a regular 3 series. I owned a 325i, 330ci and a 335i and like the feel of the x5. It feels heavy and safe.

My only regret was not getting a diesel version of it.

i just traded up from an 08 3.0si w/20s to a 12 50i...

i honestly didn't have a problem with the 6cyl and it was pretty fun driving it in sport mode... i upgraded the wheels to 20s 214s and thought it would slow it down some but after doing so I really couldn't tell the difference.. truck rode planted and still offered pick up when you needed it...

I only went with the 50i because this time i wanted to go for broke and didnt' really care about mpg.. i have a heavy foot and love to open it up every chance i get... (I almost got the x5m but noticed some of the tech pkg features were still a bit outdated, ie nav is stil DVD based, etc) and insurance was a hugh difference..

besides i plan on getting the dinan stage kit when she's well broken in...

obviously the 50i is a huge difference in power but to answer your question you can still have some fun with the 3.0... it handles the weight pretty well.

if you're really heavy on the foot then go for the v8... it's not like fuel consumption is twice as bad either... there's a difference but it's not that significant...

at the end it all depends on how much you're looking to spend...
