new dinan tune for x35i

has anyone heard there is a new engine tune for the 35i? It ups output to like 355hp and 401 ft/lbs of torque. Cost is about 2k. Thats huge.

My gas milage already is pitiful at 15.6 combined... more highway than around town. I wonder how much more it would go down with the tune in place.

Im going to the dealer in the morning to check it out.

Went to the dealer today. They strongly discouraged the dinan stage two upgrade for the X5 35i. They said it made an incredible difference in the power of the engine, however in the 335 the same upgrade was resulting in numerous failed fuel pumps, water pumps and even cracked exhaust manifolds from the excess heat coming off the turbo.

They said there are many cases of BMW and DINAN pointing fingers with warranty issues.... while the customers car sits in the lot broken and unable to be driven.

So I guess I saved 2 grand today.

Is the dealer you went to a Dinan Authorized Dealer?

Yes. They said there were only 130 us dealers left that are still Dinan dealers. They are one of them, but they said they are having too many problems with the turbo tunes.

Hasn't this only been out about a week and a half for the N55? That seems like a really quick time to have numerous failed engines because of the tune. Perhaps they are referring to the older tunes and engines?

I curious too as it seems unlikely that they're talking about the new tune

He was referring to the tune in the 335 which caused the failed fuel pump, etc.

The new tune for the N55 engine is available for the X5, the X6, 135i, and the 335i. It's a new tune for all the cars with this engine. So, again, if the dealer is telling you it's failing in large numbers, he's either had a huge number of tunes and failures in a week and a half, or he's talking about a different Dinan software tune on an older engine.

Clearly older N54 engine used in the 335's, etc. No way this one dealer has had multiple failures on the N55 that just came out. Does not make any sense.

In fact the HPFP (N54) issue lead to a class action against BMW.

Except for the F10 535i.

+1, Unless they have a ton of early adopters.

it is quite possible the failures my dealership experienced were with the N54 tune. Even if it was, clearly these guys are looking out for my best interest when they advised me to stay away.

If there was in fact a class action brought against BMW as a result of the last tune, I personally would not want the "new" tune in my vehicle.

if any of you guys choose to go ahead with the new tune, please do let us all know how it works out.

I applaud your dealer for giving their honest feedback. They have nothing to gain advising you not to purchase the tune.

The class action against BMW was for the high pressure fuel pump failures which alledged that they were aware of the problems and didn't fix the problem properly. It had nothing to due with the tune developed by Dinan or other tuners. Many owners experienced HPFP failures under normal driving conditions.
