Eibach vs. H&R

So, I am assuming you probably can not go wrong with either spring selection, but I wanted to ask, any cons with either spring? The H&R drop kit would be a 1.2. Anything more seems a bit to much for my liking.

I have had Eibach's installed for about 25k miles now and really like the ride. Spring rates I believe are very close to stock which is why they feel similar but they have a less aggresive drop in the rear over the H&R. I would really like the Eibachs to be a little lower in the back and stick with their spring rate. I have not tried the H&R but have heard they are quite a bit more stiff.

I wont be trying anymore springs, also skipping KW's and just going to invest in a full air suspension when the time comes.

I will echo Deftronix in that the Eibach setup handles very very well. I was very pleased with the ride quality but the drop in the rear leaves a lot to be desired. I ended up talking with Vogtland and they provided me their springs to test and I think the drop is pretty good. The rear sits lower than Eibach but overall the ride quality isn't as good. I'm actually on a search to find an H&R setup to test next to compared with my other setups. The H&R looks to have a similar drop as my Vogtland but I'll be curious to see if the ride quality is similar.

To summarize, if you want a conservative drop with excellent ride quality go for the Eibach setup. If you want a lower drop knowing you'll sacrifice some ride quality, go H&R

H&R also has an option for a 1.2" rear drop, the Eibachs are only a 1.0" drop in the rear, that may be why you guys were not totally happy with the rear drop. I did read that.

Vogtland makes a set for our trucks also?

Yep. I believe I'm the North American test mule. I'll post the measurements and some pics on the Vogtland this weekend.

They seem to be a cool company. They did that with Thunderbirds like mine about a decade ago. Now they are all that is left for lowering springs for them.

Well in the meantime, I think with the guys complaining of the eibach rear drop, I may shoot for an H&R 1.2" and 1.2"

Yeah I'm going to try speaking with Eibach next week and just see if it's possible to get rear springs with a lower drop. Highly unlikely but worth a try. I think my setup only dropped .5" in the rear after settling which was a bummer. From the sound of it, the H&R 1.2" setup sounds good so I'm just waiting to find a set to try out.

must be nice being rich.

I am sold on the H&R 1.2" drop. Sounds like its better at least in looks.

Ha! Not even close to considering myself rich, though I don't have kids so that helps lol!

Just wanted to provide an update to the Vogtland springs after they have had months to settle. Surprisingly the measurements have not changed since shortly after installing:

Vogtland (Preliminary)
Right Front: 30.75"
Right Rear: 30.50"
Left Front: 30.75"
Left Rear: 30.50"

Vogtland (Settled)
Right Front: 30.75"
Right Rear: 30.50"
Left Front: 30.75"
Left Rear: 30.50"

Finally got a chance to go through my photos. Here is are some pics of the different setups:

looks like the Vogtlands may come in the 1.5" range or so. I like the look of those. How is the ride and handling since changing from the Eibachs?

Eibachs are like stock sport suspension which I really liked. The Vogtland springs make the X5 fell more nimble but the ride is stiffer overall. The back feels like it rebounds quicker so the spring rate is likely higher than those on the Eibachs

The stance is pretty flat with just a very slight rake which I don't mind especially if you load up.

I had the H&R w/Self Leveling springs installed and I must say, i do not like them.

it rides harsher then stock and i can't explain why.

i looked at Eibach and the DINAN kits and there are slight differences in the drop but only the DINAN offers bump stops as a highly recommended option.

i have not seen the Vogtland's offering

ait suspension or a good set of KWs are on my list. maybe i will get lucky and run into another X5/X6M Owner who has the KWs or air suspension installed and i can get a ride and feel the difference

This may explain why so many complain of the 2" H&R's. When I bought my F30 a few years back, everyone was buying H&R kits to lower their cars. Dinan then released a shorter bump stop kit for lowering springs. Many wanted the look and stiffness of the H&R's, but didn't want them to ride like crap. A few guys started purchasing this kit to increase the ability for the shock to travel without crashing. Everyone then started to report back that this was definitely the way to go. It made a significant difference in suspension travel. I am thinking I may need to pick up a set of the shorter bump stops from Dinan for my X5. Worth a try as this will increase the shocks ability to do its job.

Does Eibach even make a spring kit for the E70 with self leveling rear suspension?

I'm about to pull the trigger on H&R's 1.2 kit with rear links for SLS.

Unless there is something in the bottom half of the bump stop keeping it mounted, just cut it. No need to go out and spend $215 on Dinan bump stops. One thing to keep in mind as well, the bump stop part#s are different between M and Non-M models and it looks like Dinans are for M models only. The only thing I can see being a problem with cutting the stop is if the shaft shield mounts to it. In that case a simple zip tie fixes that problem. Unless bump stop technology has changed since I was lowering cars at a shop in my younger years, this is an easy way to achieve more travel without paying an absurd amount of money.

I was think that exact same thing. If the car is bouncing off the bump stops it would severely change ride quality. How do you check to see if you have self leveling suspension? I thought these trucks had a dynamic suspension that was all air ride?
