X5 50i interior deteriorating
I decided to detail my wife's 50i today since I've been neglecting it lately...After I finished the outside, I decided to give the interior some loving...has anyone else noticed any cracking on the plastic(wood) that sits to the left and right of the shifter?

Mine did that on the right side of the console and on the wood trim on the driver's door. I was able to get it replaced under warranty as a defect in both cases. Luckily it happened before the initial warranty ran out.

Unfortunately my warranty is up...the rest of the trim seems to be in good shape after I finished cleaning it

I saw this happen on a buddies 2008 3.0si but on the wooden trims on the doors, this was due to slamming the door closed.

Since i've owned the truck it's been garage kept and my wife drives like an old lady...you would think with the amount of $ we spent on these trucks BMW would of used a better quality of trim

I wonder if it makes any difference which wood trim you have? Cattivo looks to have the Burl Walnut - what trim do the rest of you have?
I have the Bamboo trim - no cracks. |

I have the dark bamboo the center console wood was fine but I guess the wood couldn't handle the winter here and cracked which sucks because that's the larges piece

I'm starting to think you're right about the cold...seems like everyone who has had some cracking live where it gets really cold...if we get another cold winter like last year, my interior trim will be destroyed

^ the wrap does look pretty good if done correctly. I still think it looks better on say a 3 series than an X5. Probably depends on the interior color too - I have cinnamon and not sure a vinyl wrap would look very good with my interior…or if it was Sand. It probably works best with a black interior.

I have cracks on the left and right side as well. I wonder if my CPO Warranty will cover this? It's going in on the 31st anyways to have the idrive controller replaced.
