BMW X5 50i Muffler Delete
I have a 2012 BMW X5 50i M-Sport package(4.4 Twin Power Turbo) and I would like everyone's honest opinion on a muffler delete
Unfortunately I can't afford an exhaust system for this car way to expensive. All I would like to know is How does it the muffler delete sound in the vehicle? Does it bring any issues? What kind of pipe should i use? Does it void warranty? What is it like at cruising speeds? Just everyone's thought on this topic. Is the Drone bad??????

make a 4 inch cut before the mufflers.. if you like the sound then take mufflers right off and pipe it to the rear bumper... should it sound like garbage... then simply re weld the 4 inch gap back in... I would imagine a reputable shop would do this for 100 bucks or so should you wish to change it back... and probably 350-4 to pipe the exhaust back to the bumper should you like the sound.

Yeah I agree, super easy and cheap to test.
There is a set up I'm working on that will be the $500 Eisenmann clone. I will keep you posted! ? |

Have you seen the Megan muffler back system? That thing is like what $400 or so? Much more affordable than some of the other "brand name," systems out there. Very good reviews from folks that have it.

The forum and I would really like to hear your mod and get your specs! It looks like a muffler delete + replacement with a resonator?

Don't do it! You will regret it. I did remove the hose on the pump on the right side of the muffler and it sounds nice. Just wish I can have that on both sides. |

With that said, these parts are all really just exhaust pipe bent a certain way to either create power or sound or both. Some manufacturers have been able to get power out of their systems but not anywhere near the numbers needed to justify a $3K+ price tag. Especially for a part that will NEVER see the light of day. So, taking the pressure off in trying to squeeze 10HP out of an exhaust system leaves you with a task of creating good sound. There is a combination of resonators and exhaust mufflers that will give you the sound you want. I'm working on that with a fabricator and as soon as I have something, I will share my set up for the price of free. |

If you want your X5 to sound like an actual V8 I say do a muffler delete and use straight pipes...I get compliments every day on how angry it sounds from other enthusiasts

On the right side there is a little pump that opens and closes some type of valve. Before the valve would only open up after the car is warmed up. What I did was remove the hose that opens and closes the valve and now the valve stays open. The sound is perfect and no drone. I just wish it was on both sides. This is a pic of the muffler delete: |

I would love to see the clone.. But what is this hose that I'm hearing about, I didn't even know the 50i had a valve...
Ooh btw people are charging me a little over $300 for a muffler delete Which makes 0 sense too me.. And I can't find a proper axel back for this car that in my price range

The hose you're hearing about is the vacuum line that's attached to the actuator arm(pump/exhaust valve) that opens the valves at or above 3k rpm...the 50i doesn't have valves

If any of you guys are in SoCal is highly recommend A1 Performance in Santa Ana. The owner, Tiger, has been featured on TV shows and does amazing work. The great thing is that he will work with you depending on what you are looking for. He is my go to guy and has done a few of my cars, all of which he did full mandrel bent Tig welded stainless steel systems....non of that crush bent you traditionally see.
