Shipping 20 inch X5 tires?

Hey all,

What is the best way to ship 20 inch X5 tires?

I purchased two cubed boxes, 30x30x30. Problem is, anything over 26x26x26 doubles the price. I'm looking at $150 for just one box to California! (2 tires each box)

If you are shipping just tires, I usually band or stretch wrap 2 of them together. No box or packaging. If you set up a shipping account it also helps with the cost.

I agree, thats how they ship to us! Unless of course, I buy them, then I'll expect the "rubber" tires to be surrounded by bubble rap and individually packaged to prevent "chafing" !!!

Lol

Umm, UPS pilot, right? Just throw em in the back.....

Sorry, couldn't resist. Highly envious of your profession.

I have shipped wheels/tires before and just purchased that heavy stretch plastic material and wrapped them multiple times with a piece of cardboard on the outer edge to protect the wheels. Never had a problem and did not use boxes.

Good luck

Hey guys.

Thanks for the comments.

Yes, I love my job and the company I work for. I am truly blessed in that. Interestingly, UPS does not offer any discount for shipping by its employees. Odd fact, but true.

These X5 tires that I sold are absolutely monsters. The rear tires are 13 inches wide and 28 inches in diameter and 42.5 pounds!

Here is what I was facing.

1. If one thought about putting these bad boys in boxes, a 30 inch cubed box exceeds the threshold of shipping sanity and greatly magnifies cost of shipping.
UPS and Fedex cost was in excess of $350 to California from Kentucky! This does not include the cost of the boxes!

2. I looked at sending the tires without boxes, by taping round card board cutouts on the outside of the tires and taping two tires together. Cost?
UPS = $240 and Fedex = $300

3. What I did. Try http://www.shipgreyhound.com
I packaged the tires with no boxes, and used cardboard cutouts, two tires taped together
One can ship just about anything in the bellies of Greyhound buses! They have a dedicated division of their company called Greyhound PackageXpress.
You can send a massively big box, up to 100 pounds all the way across the country for $65! This also includes $1,000 insurance and tracking capability. You go online, select your origin bus station and destination bus station, purchase the shipping online. They email you your package label, you bring your box to the station and that's it!
