Turbo lag on a 2011 X5 35d
I am new to this forum so a big hello to everybody on this forum is in order.
Anyway, anybody expriencing a turbo lag on their 2011 X5 35d? Mine is really horrible to a point that is quite scary especially on an intersection coming from standstill and you gun the accelerator. Is this normal? I have an 08 E60 with a twin turbo engine and there is no such turbo lag on that car. Any input is very much appreciated. |

When I went for a test drive at the dealer, I drove an x5d with noticeable turbo lag. Putting it in DS definitely helped. When I got back to the dealer I explained my concern with this and the service manager told me there was a software update available which would negate some of the lag (they did this with my 335). Anyway, I wound up ordering an x5d and while the lag isn't as bad as the original test vehicle, it is definitely there a bit. If I felt I needed to get out of the hole in a hurry, I would put it in DS and mash the pedal, otherwise, the minimal lag is ok for me.

Turbo Lag X5 35i>>35d
Took delivery of 35d on 12/18--thought there ws much less turbo lag with it than the 2011 35i loaner we drove earlier in the month. Maybe they have already applied the software upgrade. I thought the 35i had pretty bad turbo lag--definitely was irritating.

. I don't know... I haven't experienced any bad turbo lag on my 2011 35i M-Sport. Haven't driven a 35d so I can't speak about that one...

It is a diesel, that is how they work, super heavy reciprocating parts, big big turbo with more boost pressure etc - if you want it to feel like your E60 you would need to get the gas engine, the diesel is a totally different animal and takes longer to make power, but when they make power, they make it well, but getting off the line is not a strong point of a diesel.

Get a diesel tune if you feel that the get off the line performance isn't where you'd like it to be... And just to answer the follow up question, "What diesel tune?" JBDiesel http://www.burgertuning.com/BMW_JBD_...ance_chip.html
Only tune for a diesel I know about, a Shame some of the other tuners don't have products to compete with it, but it's avail, and it will help...

How long have you had it - it does take about 1000 miles to adapt to your driving, throttle transmission etc. As others have said, it also may be the electronic throttle that has not adapted or is just programmed differently than in the gas and if that is the case, if you can tell the difference in DS mode and it feels better, you might want to put in a sprint booster to make the throttle actually do what your foot is asking.

I have what I assume is turbo lag (this is my first turbo *and* my first diesel) with my "d".It's a bit annoying to me but nothing more.I'm far from being an aggressive driver.
