What feels faster X5 35 or X5D?
By the seat of your pants...what feels faster X5 35SAV or the 35 diesel? I had driven the 35 the other day, and off the line was a little disappointed with the torque....however on the highway had no problem accelerating past other cars at 60+MPH. I have ready many comments on the diesel being a torque monster, but would love to hear from those who have driven both.
Thanks! |

I tested both and so did my wife. X5D was better overall. Big low end acceleration. Less noisy and felt more stable. The X5 was fast to accelerate on the highway as you said but louder engine noise with all the horsepower. We bought the X5D.

One more vote for the diesel. I drove both models and I could not tell the difference in acceleration. The diesel option costs a lot less and you will definitely feel the difference at the fuel pump. I am biased towards diesels engines though, for what it's worth.

I also test drove both. I like the growl in the 35 . I really couldn't tell much difference in acceleration. The numbers posted say that the 35 goes 0-60 a bit faster.

The gas engine is technically faster, but as for feel, I think the nod goes to the diesel, all that bottom end torque (not that the gas motor doesn't have a lot also), really gives you that seat of the pants push off the line, the more torque, the more it seems to feel fast, even though the engine is slower reving and makes a bit less HP.
My 335 does the same thing compared to my buddies M3, the 335 has way more torque down low off the line, gives a good kick in the pants at low RPM, but the M3 rev's quicker and higher and makes more HP, so ultimately it is faster even though it doesn't feel it so much off the line.

Apparently you can. Look at the 0-60 numbers for both vehicles.

X5D - Not only is the torque a kick in the pants, but that model is rated higher overall than either of the gas engine ones (Consumer Reports). We love ours. Biggest problem "Oh, crap, are we really going that fast?"
