My wife's X5d just recently experienced these exact same symptoms. One of the sensors in the front bumper had a rock hit. Insurance paid it in full since it was covered under comprehensive. Check the front sensors for a rock hit. If you're lucky that will be the cause, ~$600 otherwise. Look at the face of the sensor carefully, the sensor on my wife's X5 had a very small nick.

Dealer did the repair.
I took liberty of what the OP stated about the rear camera not working as not able to use it properly. The camera worked my X5, but the PDC warning on the screen made it unuseable. |

Alright that makes sense. Hopefully its just a sensor issue where it can be fixed. Hopefully after the camera will work. I am scheduled to bring it in on Thursday. Will keep this post updated. Others can chime in their experience as well.
