Back up camera upgrade

Can anyone point me in the right direction on purchasing a better back up camera?

I have a 2008 x5 (e70) with the tech package. It has a back up camera in it, but the video it provides is horrible. I would like to replace the existing camera, in a plug and play fashion, so that I can get a better picture.....

Please Advise...

It looks like he's asking for a BETTER backup camera, not adding one to an existing NAV unit. I didn't see any new or upgraded cameras on the linked site you gave.

I'm also looking for a better camera. If it's an easy change. The Picture from the OEM camera is terrible in dark places...

Despite knowing very little about these reversing cams, I am a cctv engineer and last weekend also bought a 2008 X5 (E70), so I know what you are talking about, the image is shameful.

I'd also be interested in upgrading the camera but firstly it's worth finding out what resolution, or tvl, the current camera is. The next thing to consider is the resolution of the monitor in the dash, it could be that the camera is capable of capturing better images than the monitor can currently reproduce. Finally is there a unit that will physically fit in correctly, but I guess that was your question in the first place.

Sorry for creating more questions than answers, might give you some food for thought though!

Oh... White LED lighting will normally produce a far better image at night than any other lighting including IR at short distances.

hope this isn't too too obvious but if you adjust the contrast in the options menu of idrive it makes a huge difference in clarity. worth a shot

good luck

I just tried this after owning our X5 for 2.5 years. I was utterly amazed at what a difference it made! Such a simple fix but such a dramatic improvement. Don't set your brightness and contrast any higher than 20%, it'll look high def. Okay, that was an exaggeration, but seriously it was a great improvement. Thanks!

I only tried at night but surprisingly, lowering the brightness and contrast level worked. Looks much sharper/crisp image at least at night.
I'm gonna try tomorrow AM to see if still look better in daylight or not.

No - on the camera display itself when it's on. Left side, adjusted with I drive knob.
