X5 35i vs X5 4.8 / X5 5.0

I've had my 335i for 9 months and no problems but for one, i commute back and forth everyday. The roads are tough and the potholes get worse and worse everyday. I started to decide if i should get rid of my coupe and invest in an X5 as a DD.

With those who own one, which would you rather prefer? X35i or go with the V8 option?

How is the gas consumption with the V8?

I feel you, since i have e39 525i manual with sport suspension, it gets bumpy sometimes. I drove e70 X5 v8 and it was very smooth , i really like it, i am currently looking for the right one. However, since my 525i has 200k miles on the clock, i would never sell it because it is a fun car for me, yet very safe and cheap if ,God forbid, something happens. I can take my e39 to the tail of the dragon anyday, so i choose to have both.
I think you are going to miss you coupe's sportiness when you switch, as sporty as X5s are, they are no match for the smaller sportier BMWs!!
just a thought...

I sold my M5 (e39) for the same reason. I am enjoying the commute on the X5.

I currently get 20.1L/100kms on my 2008 4.8i.

Definitely a lot worse than I expected but I guess you have to pay to play. Tank is 85L and I can get roughly 400kms when I drain it down to the ground. This is all city driving mind you, but to be quite frank, I don't notice much of a difference between hwy and city driving. Hope that helps A bit.

Damn, 20.1L/100kms, my California gets better than that, thats why my DD is a diesel and city driving gets me 10L/100klms.

^yup! pretty horrendous. I used to drive a stage 4 tuned Wrx and had better gas consumption than this thing.

I thought something was out of spec as when i looked it up prior to getting it, ppl were saying 18L/100kms. Perhaps it was tested without the large 20" wheels? Those things aren't light.

I asked some other local owners on the road and they said they get the exact same as me...

My M50d had done a total of 120klm, city driving it started at 18.5L/100kms and each day it comes down a little and is currently sitting on 12.2L/100kms, it will be interesting to see if it gets below 10L/100klm.
