Interesting. I believe my leak is in the exact same place. Getting it pressure tested in a little over a week. Wondering if I need to spring for a Behr or if a Nissens will do. Used Nissens on my E39 and they usually lasted 5-7 years.

Yep, thus the "need" for the redesigned hose with the extension capped off. Going to do what you did and get a plug from HD. The auto parts stores don't have any hose plugs, so I found out this morning.

Where'd you go?
Got my Nissens today from UPS (was waiting for her in my overalls), got it into the car about three hours later. Replaced the radiator, and while I was down there, all three belt pulleys and both belts. The aluminum belt stretch tool that is very popular doesn't work on my car because I have a massive balancer on the driveshaft pulley. I used two screwdrivers and a lot of profanity. BTW, I suspected that there was a cheap knockoff radiator in there. I was right. Some "CSF" crap made in Indonesia. Just like the Carquest oil filter and cheap oil I found in it when I bought it. G&C Tire and Auto in Chantilly VA did most of the service work on this car before I bought it. Avoid them at all costs. They obviously screwed the previous owner. When I called them last week to asks what brand radiators they normally used, the goober stated "well, we ALWAYS use OEM parts, especially on BMW's". Lying sack of shat. If you have a fat balancer on your crank pulley like the first pic, the very popular belt stretch tool in the 2nd pic will not work. I ended up using flathead screwdrivers.
3 hours from start to finish: - replace tensioner pulleys and deflector pulley - replace belts - seal off hose that connects to 4th radiator port on the old style radiator. - replace radiator with brand new Nissens, including new o-rings |
