Here I sit at the dealer in Palm Harbor, FL after 3 overheat warnings 63K miles getting the water pump replaced! Why is there no recall on this? On going problem for years on BMW's! XDrive 35i Premium. 5 hours to change a water pump! Unacceptable! Plus I gave them a extra hour for the cool down.

Every BMW I’ve owned has needed a new water pump between 65-75k miles...then replace thermostat housing, thermostat, hoses, etc before 90k miles. The cooling system always goes in this timeframe. I think 75-100k miles is always the most expensive period for these cars. That’s why the warranty expires well before that. CPO are normally good for this reason, cheaper car and the dealer fixes everything

That’s why you shouldn’t get a 35i, instead of a 35d. In fact there is no reason to get a 35i besides it’s cheaper. Anyway Those electronic water pump with plastic housing are very easy to fail and is diesel owner have a traditional water pump that won’t break that easy. There is no recall because it probably designed to be failed at around 100k km. Imagine this, you have lava hot high pressure coolant pumping through a parts that is joined with plastic and circuit board, how can it last that long. Not only BMW, Tesla and some electric cars electric coolant pump will fail( like a Toyota Prius and hybrid Camry, they always fail after couple years fbownership) since they are similar to your plastic electronic water pump but they runs lower pressure and temperature

My bros' 2006 Prius just went in for a main battery replacement at 150k miles. Other than that, the damn thing just keeps ticking and ticking...
Our 2012 X6 35i with 44k miles is in the shop today. Everything took a dump at the same time. One of those days where I shoulda just stayed home LOL. Medium-sized coolant leak, small-sized engine-oil leak. A/C compressor started making noise on the way to the dealership. Hilarious. Waiting for diagnosis...

There are rebuild kit for main battery available at a cost around $600. Main battery isn’t the most expensive thing to service. Other components like electric drive unit( which include starter and alternator) can run up to $4000 to replace.

Only just got it back this am.
- Water pump replaced due to leak, covered under my $3500 extended warranty - Replaced t-stat at my own expense, recommended by BMW. Took forever to warm up before, I see no difference now. Outta pocket for about $300 - Oil-filter housing gasket replaced due to leak - Grumbling a/c compressor actually turned out to be the tranny bell pan was banged and rubbing against the tranny body. Outta pocket for $300 - Front thrust rod bushing separated. Outta pocket for $600 - Recall for air-bag, drivers side, replaced at no charge - Recall for front driveshaft, replaced at no charge So in the end, the extended warranty covered $2,730 in repairs as well as the car rental. Just knowing that I'm at least getting back some of the investment when I bought the extended warranty makes me feel better. And, I still have coverage for another year. Could be worse...

I dunno where you heard that. A BMW battery and their infamous "mating" to the car should be around $500-$600. Our X6 is down in FL and I have a Battery Minder 2012 AGM on it when we're up north (about 6 months a year). So far, so good....

Mine went out at 60k. Water pump + thermostat + housing costs 650. Took me 5 hours of labor and 4 beers. Don't know if I'd do it again. It was a pain.

Do you have the 50i? How did you get the water pump out from between the engine and the radiator and all the rest? Did you loosen the motor mounts and raise the engine? or did you remove the radiator shroud? Or did you take it out from the side?

2013 X5 40k
water pump just failed, and it going cost me a lot. I can not believe this failure happen with such low mileage 40K, any thought? I also feel the extended manufacturer warranty should cover it, or there should be a recall, the 2011 was a recalled.

So I just checked out Meziere online and the website says they last about 2400 hours. And supposedly the average american drives for 500 hours each year, give or take some. So that comes to about 5 years. But I hear they have been known to go out as early as 3 years. |
