Wanted: E70 Rear Entertainment DVD - Monitor Only
Just bought a used X5 4.8 and the monitor for the OEM rear DVD (the one in the middle) gets power but appears to be cracked and doesn\'t properly display an image. Looking for a replacement monitor that would be cheaper than the $2400 OEM replacement part. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as my kids are a little bored LOL!

You can have a professional audio shop install a replacement aftermarket screen for a fraction of the cost. or you can go with the headrest tv's like I did in my 4.8i and it cost under $1000 for both installed. (not a cheap brand, you can get no name stuff for $350)

If you install the headrest units they am operate simultaneously with the factory unit. The headrest unit operates on FM radio transmitters. Each of the units come with their own DVD players or you can have ten play the same DVD on both.
The OEM headrests are not modified. They units come built into the new replacement headrest. When it comes to resale you can have the option to simply remove an replace the headrests and just disclose to the prospective buyer that the screen has issues. And you are set to go!

Update: I'm getting the monitor fixed/replaced at a local A/V shop. Hope it works out... !
Anyone else crack the screen? Seems like with the flip/fold mechanism it would be easy to do if you have the center console open slightly when you fold down? Not sure what happened to mine as it was like that when I bought it.

Hi 3s a charm.
I live in Calgary and have the same issue you had last November with your broken rear DVD screen. Can you tell me where you had the rear screen replaced and an approximate cost? Thanks Alistair |

The dealership I bought my truck from ended up having Calgary BMW order the replacement DVD unit - I think I remember the cost being in the $2,500 range!
