Neither. But a good friend of mine is kind enough to provide me with fairly regular updates. Unfortunately, his dealership is too far away or else I would get my cars serviced there (a couple of hours each way).

Guys - thanks for all your feedbacks.

Looks like I will be making some changes to my configuation:
remove running boards
add pearl silver instead of white
add sun shades (if i ever have kids )
add individual 19" alloys.

All this provided the delay in teh delivery is not that bad...

keep the running boards. .you'll need them.

stick with the white. .pearl silver is more expensive to repaint if scratched.

add sunshades. .got them too on the back. you'll need less air con in the summer.

get the 19 alloys, ,if roads are not that good.

I'm a little surprised by the suggestion to the keep the running boards. I tried to used them and I found they had no practical value what so ever if used as a intermediate step.

Is there something to the running boards I'm not seeing?

Yes, imagine you are very tired, or the passenger in the front is not that tall, or both, and you try to step into the Panzer parked on a less horizontal line, and instead of stepping easier on a board, you try to put your right foot all the way next near the gas pedal and not quite managing it. . .well, I don't know how tall you are, but I am 6'4'' and still ordered them, because I know from my Mitsubishi Pajero what a bitch is sometimes to climb into a tall car with office shoes in snowy conditions.

Have you used them much?

Don't get me wrong, I think they're great aesthetically and I might get them for that reason. In most case the step, or in this case, running board, is an intermediate distance between the ground and the floor level of the car. Or in the case of a rig with an elevated seat it might be higher.

An example: My wife's Lincoln Navigator. The step is in between the ground and the floor board. When you open the door and lean out it's the natural height to step down.

I'm 6'-1" tall and what I found with the x6, is the running boards are too high. They are about the same height as the floor board of the x6 itself, so instead of stepping down, I stepped sideways. That tended to be awkward for me, so instead of using the running board as a step, I had to step out past directly on the ground which was a big reach.

Maybe if were shorter.

+1

I had the exact same experience with the X6 running boards and hence had asked to have them removed from my order.

If they would be lower (as you said an intermediate step), then MAYBE they would make sense and would come in handy, but because of the location, they are useless and way to high to be useful as a step. The other issue that makes them useless on the X6 is the shape of the door opening due to the slope of the roof. Again, if the running boards would be lower this wouldn't be an issue.

I'd still say take them off if you can, you'll be happier in the long run

quick question, do the running boards stick out past the size of the doors? if so could they protect against potential dings on the doors from other cars? cause if they open the door and are close enough to your car would the hit be absorbed by the running boards first and not hit your door?

I don't think that the running board would protect you from any dings (other car doors, etc).

If you analyze the shape of most car doors, you'll notice that they are hardly ever straight. Most have some sort of kink or bend in them that will cause them to hit your door even if you have the running board on your X6.

It's an interesting thought, however I doubt it will make much of a difference.

I think even an abandoned shopping cart would still manage to ding your door.

Running Board

I find that if I stand on the running board, during ingress/egress, I don't have dirty pants problem.
I find that stepping onto the board as i get in gives me same feeling as climbing ladder to get into jet fighter w/HUD.
