Removing roof rails

Evening guys,

My X6 came with roof rails and the dealer refused to remove them. I've had a search and found conflicting reports that it is a big job and requires the head-liner to be dropped, others saying they can be removed simply by unbolting from the roof.

Either way, I am going to need 2 new roof mouldings (the ones I have now have holes for the rails).

Does anyone know if there's somewhere I can get these parts in the UK besides from BMW? I have a friend with a paint shop who will paint them for me, but need to find the part.

Part No's are: 51137250401 & 51137250401

If not, I guess BMW it is.

Cheers

Hi guys - can anyone tell me if I need to drop the headliner to remove the roof rails?

I will be ordering the parts from BMW next week as I can't find them elsewhere - £120 ($200) each side

I want roof rails fitted to mine but the dealer hates doing the job because it means dropping the headliner and drilling. But I miss not having them cosmetically compared with my X5. They want over $2000 to do the job! I think they are trying to put me off, so I will push them and see what happens.

I can imagine the install is a painstaking job, but that is a lot of money.

I'm going to speak to a few garages before I order the roof mouldings to make sure they are happy with dropping the headliner. If no one is willing to do it, I'd be happy to keep the roof rails on.

Also - BKHK from RRS?

Yep, same old me! RRS is a great forum also. Wish I could have one of each!

Does anyone have a guide on fitting the roof rails? Looking for some instructions on dropping the headliner.

Thanks
