Clunk

I have a clunking noise when coming to a stop. Had both thrust control arms and sway bar end links replaced and still making noise. Any suggestions? 2011 x5 3.5i

Thanks.

Clunking or squeaking? You could look at your lower (rear) control arms (real-oem says lower wishbone w/rubber) the one bolt holding the arms to the subframe can be loose. 1mm of play will cause some petty loud noises b/c it's angled under load and it's basically metal on metal. This happened to me...after I did everything else. You will need it jacked up with no load on the susp. to tell if it's loose. Hope this helps...

It's a clunk. Do you have diagram of control arm? I changed the thrust rods on both sides of vehicle and still does it. It also chatters when pulling out with wheels turned.

Ok. The lower wishbone, I have excessive play where the strut mounts to the control arm. Is that normal? I can twist on the wishbone part where the strut slides in.

item #10 Bolt/nut 13/14 could be loose and yes you will hear pulling down/out of driveway at low speeds in parking lots or any uneven surface etc.

Mine were loose, I tightened them, some months later I just replaced the arms b/c the ball joints boots were tearing/going bad so check the ball joints side where they mount to the wheel carrier as well since your under there.

if the image don't show up then just right click open image in new tab.

Mine was the flex plate between the front two wheels. The bolts were loose. Drove me crazy! Tightened the bolts, no problems now.
