Water in Tail light

It seems like there is water getting into the tail light and causing the water to touch the contacts to the socket and causing them to rust. That\'s why the tail light keeps going out. Is there a way to fix the seal or rubber so that water doesn\'t seep in?

Yes. It's a common issue on the X5 actually. Dealership runs a leak test to see where the bad seal is, replaces the tail-light and fixes the seal.

Don't know if CPO will cover it. I had my taillights replaced with 1 day left on my original warranty

Garage List
2011 BMW X5M  [10.00]
Hi

New to the board

I had this very problem when I had my X5 35d, my local dealer (in the UK) told me it was a manufacturing defect & I had mine replaced under the warranty.

The service manager told me I was the 7th person at that dealership with the same problem

Good luck

There's an official BMW bulletin for this issue. The dealership has to fix it under warranty.

I have this issue and I did find out from the dealer that they do not cover issue regarding tail lights, for water leaks or otherwise under CPO. I did end up getting a decent price though on a replacement assembly which I plan to try and install on my own this weekend. Total cost - about $150 (for a brand new part and two year warranty)

Good luck to you (and me actually)
