Recommendation

Can someone recommend a decent cheap wheel for my winter set?

I am getting setup for my 2011 50i M sport. I can't find much luck, I know I want 255/50/19 all the way around on tires.

What are the wheel dimensions I need? Offsets? I keep getting different answers from BMW and just want to know if I buy wheels that they will fit.

Someone please give me some advice.

I would go to www.tirerack.com and enter your vehicle specific information, then choose a winter tire and wheel package. They will recommend a wheel and tire set that will fit your vehicle. If you don't like the wheels they offer, you can call European Auto Source and give them your specs and they will build a winter tire and wheel package for you too with some nicer wheels and you'd get the same tires that tirerack has at the same prices as tirerack (EAS gets their tires for your package from tirerack).

I just got my winter tire and wheel set from EAS and I am very happy with it on my 2013 X5 35i Sport Activity.

I had the same idea wanting to save on the wheels, looking for a cheaper alternative or a used BMW OEM set of wheels. In the end, I went ahead and spent the money and bought new 18" BMW OEM wheels, new sensors and Pirelli Scorpions Ice and Snow. Total bill? Around $2,500 installed. How much could I have saved? I don't know - but knowing that I'll have the set for a few winters the extra money was worth it to me. My 2¢ advice is: if you can afford it, spend the money and avoid problems you might encounter buying used or lesser quality wheels.

You could buy a cheap beater car for the cost of set of winter wheels for the X5.

True, but just think - then you'd have to drive a cheap beater car!

I'd suggest getting a used set of OEM X5 wheels, as the fitment will be guaranteed while also retaining the highest value. I've noticed that demand for "cheap" after-mkt wheels are much lower than used 18 or 19" OEM wheels. Any E70 model X5 wheels of the 18, 19" variety will fit. The only drawback is the wheels are not staggered so your rears will look skinny compared to the stock wheels and flared fenders. Expect to pay about $7-800 for 18" OEM wheels and upwards of $1,800 for a good set of wheel/winter tire setup. Don't forget to buy a set of TPMS as well, which will add another $200 to the total cost.

Throw on a set of Contis ExtremeContact DWS non-RFTs. My X5 rolls around like a tank on snow and ice covered road. No need for a set of winter wheels, just use DWS all year round.

I have the Pirelli Scorpion snow and Ice on my X5M with a set of 299M style OEM rims. During our recent blizzard with 8 inches of snow and slush the vehicle did great. I'll keep two sets of rims and tires and put the 300M back on in the spring.
